By 2025, the cargo throughput of ports along the Yangtze River will reach a new historical high

Wuhan, December 29 (Xinhua) -- The cargo throughput of ports along the Yangtze River is expected to exceed 4.2 billion tons by 2025, setting a new historical high. This is what the reporter learned from the press conference held by the Yangtze River Navigation Administration of the Ministry of Transport on December 29th.


According to preliminary estimates by the Yangtze River Navigation Administration, the cargo throughput of ports along the Yangtze River will exceed 4.2 billion tons by 2025, a year-on-year increase of 4.8%, and the passenger volume of cruise ships will reach 8.85 million, a year-on-year increase of 3.5%. During the 14th Five Year Plan period, the cargo throughput of ports along the Yangtze River exceeded 19.2 billion tons, an increase of 30.1% compared to the 13th Five Year Plan.


Wang Jianbin, Deputy Director of the Yangtze River Navigation Administration, introduced that in the past five years, the conditions of the Yangtze River main waterway have continued to improve, with the number of billion ton ports increasing from 12 to 18 and the number of 10000 ton production berths increasing from 360 to 487. With the completion of the second phase of the Jingjiang Channel Regulation Project and the official operation of the 10.5-meter deepwater channel from Nanjing to Wuhu, the navigation capacity of large ships has significantly improved, and the strategic channel function of the Yangtze River's golden waterway will be further enhanced.
