In September 2017, the predecessor of the Western Land Sea New Corridor, the Chongqing Guizhou Guangxi New "Southbound Corridor" train, was launched in Chongqing, marking the official opening of the new international land sea trade corridor jointly built by western provinces, municipalities, and ASEAN countries. In August 2019, the Western Land Sea New Corridor was officially elevated to a national strategy.

In recent years, the radiation range of the Western Land Sea New Channel trains has been continuously expanding, achieving comprehensive development of multiple shipping companies, ports, and categories. The number of planned train routes has increased from 2 in 2019 to 26 in 2025.

According to data from China Railway Nanning Bureau, since its operation in 2017, the Western Land Sea New Channel trains have cumulatively sent over 5 million TEUs of container cargo, and this year's shipment volume has exceeded 1.3 million TEUs.
