Johnny Melikyan, a senior researcher at the Orbelian Center in Armenia, recently stated in a written interview with Xinhua News Agency that the official establishment of a strategic partnership between Armenia and China in August 2025 has opened the door for deeper cooperation between the two countries in trade, infrastructure, and innovation.
Melikyan stated that both the "Peace Crossroads" plan proposed by Armenia and the "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by China emphasize promoting development through connectivity based on full respect for national sovereignty, equality, and mutual benefit. The synergistic effect will transform Armenia into a reliable transit partner connecting the Persian Gulf, the Black Sea, and European markets, providing more choices for global industrial and supply chains.
Melikyan believes that the establishment of a strategic partnership between Armenia and China has had an impact on Armenia's economy. By diversifying export markets for wine, brandy, and other agricultural products, it has promoted Armenia's foreign trade. Additionally, China's investment in Armenia's infrastructure and green energy has helped enhance the modernization level of Armenia's transportation network and energy system, attracting more foreign investment. Cooperation between the two countries in the field of innovation will enable Armenia to create more job opportunities in high-tech fields and promote its economic development.
Melikyan stated that the trade volume between Armenia and China has seen significant growth, with China emerging as one of Armenia's primary trading partners. The strategic partnership between Armenia and China signifies an enhancement in the quality of cooperation between the two parties. Armenia warmly welcomes China's participation in its infrastructure projects, as well as investments in renewable energy, information technology, agriculture, and industry.
