Addis Ababa, January 8 (Xinhua) - Joint press release on the China African Union Strategic Dialogue

Foreign Minister Wang Yi and President Yusuf exchanged views on China Africa joint efforts to promote modernization, global governance, China's zero tariff measures towards Africa, the International Mediation Institute, and the "Concept for Peaceful Development in the Horn of Africa".

Both sides believe that the Central African Union belongs to the global South and has broad consensus in international and regional affairs. It should jointly defend the legitimate rights and interests of the global South and support each other in safeguarding core interests and major concerns. Both sides emphasized that they will continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation, and work together to inject more positive energy into world and regional peace and stability.

The AU side reaffirmed its firm adherence to the one China principle. There is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the Government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China. It firmly supports all efforts made by the Chinese government to achieve national reunification.

Both sides reiterated the importance of maintaining an international order based on international law, particularly respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, and resolving disputes through peaceful means.

Both sides expressed serious concern over the recent developments in Venezuela and reiterated that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected, and the basic principles established by the United Nations Charter and international law must be observed.

Both sides exchanged views on China Africa cooperation in promoting modernization and other broad areas, emphasizing the need to strengthen the implementation and coordination of China's 15th Five Year Plan and the African Union's Agenda 2063.

Both sides agree to strengthen communication, coordination, and mutual support on major initiatives proposed by each other, including China's Global Security Initiative, Global Governance Initiative, and International Mediation Institute, as well as Africa's Agenda 2063 and flagship projects such as "Eliminating Guns by 2030" and the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Chairman Yusuf reiterated their commitment to effectively implementing the signed cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding, and agreed to continue to tap into the practical cooperation potential of the China Africa Union to better benefit the people of China and Africa.
